I'm here to give out pointers and motivate students because I've been there as a beginner and it is stressful and I can see why a lot of people give it up easily...

The past 6 years I have been working with:

  • Ymca Nottingham (Camp Williams)

  • Flo Skatepark Nottingham

  • Skatenottingham

This gave me the a lot of experience with the craft of skateboarding and conversing the theory based ideology of skateboarding to all different age groups made me the coach I am today. I have worked with skateboarders from all abilities levels. From grass roots to advanced levels.

I love skateboarding, the creativity behind it is endless and that's what makes it so fun. Everyone has their own style.  I enjoy working with people's unique styles as it allows me to grow as a coach and as a skateboarder.

It all started in 2016 at YMCA Camp Williams based in Nottingham. This was my first skate coaching role. There was a lot to learn especially organising sessions and implementing behavioural management. This job was part-time so I found another role as a skateboarding instructor at Flo Skatepark in Nottingham which is an indoor skatepark and I was the Head Coach there.

"Rico is an amazing skate coach, he's taught my 11 year old daughter over the past couple of years. He really knows how to make learning to skate fun and kids love skating with him. Rico is really patient with the children and is great at encouraging and building confidence in them what ever their ability. He also has great rapport with the parents too, I'd highly recommend Rico to anyone of any age learning to skate."

Liz Nelson - Trustee & Parent at Floskatepark Nottingham

"I would recommend Rico to anyone in a heartbeat. He taught my kids to skateboard during his time at Flo Skate park in Nottingham. He is a fantastic coach and an even finer human-being. Rico is technically good, his tried and tested methodology for teaching skateboarding has evolved to the point where he now must be one of the most experienced skate coaches in the country.
His biggest asset is his ability to engage with people, particularly young people and he is able to build rapport and inspire kids in a way that few adults can.
He leads by example, he balances the fine line between authority and respect with, fun and approach ability so well. Ultimately he genuinely cares and I can honestly say my kids are better people for knowing him regardless of the fact that he’s also taught them to skate!"

Andy Wright - Trustee & Parent at Floskatepark

"Ricardo, or as I call him Mr Patient, was amazing with my two kids. He was supportive, enthusiastic, broke everything down so they could progress and let them discover their potential. I would highly recommend him! He works great in groups or one-to-one and his easy going, friendly attitude is infectious."

Nicolette Poyzer - Parent at Floskatepark
